Stuff White People Like has been really popular lately. I don’t really get it. It’s not only not funny, it’s not funny in a way that lets white hipsters look at it and think to themselves “Haha, some white people are like that but it’s so not me”. I guess if you’re not white it allows you to mentally operate at the level of a lazy Comedy Central stand up feature. “Haha, brothas be all like, leanin back while they drive, but white folks be driving like this”. Yawn. It’s Carlos Mencia with a slightly better writer. It’s not like race can’t be a good ground for comedy, but it has to be done right, a good example being Black People Love Us. You know, actually clever and with some inspiration, not just lazy observational “humor”. Making fun of behaviors and stereotypes rather than just indulging in rather stupid stereotypes and running with it.
The most bizarre aspect is that not only does the site not differentiate between race and class, it just throws out weird assertions. White people love Sushi LOL. Umm, yeah. Sushi seems to be a pretty multiracial thing these days. Indie music, LOL! Yeah, totally, black people be bumpin 50 cent, yo. Jesus. Just lazy.
