Tagged By Natalia; Summer Muziks

Hey all, I’ve written like half of three real pieces, but between working 50-60 hours a week and my last class for school, it hasn’t been possible to finish them. For now though, Natalia Antonova tagged me with a meme, so here goes;

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring summer. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to

I actually have more like a dozen right now (I’m an audio geek), but we’ll go with the top 7, along with links if I have them

Dengue Fever- Hold My Hips (Killer Cambodian Pop)

Neung Phak- Tui Tui Tui (Thai/Lao pop, link is to their myspace)

Streetlight Manifesto- We Will Fall Together (Ska)

Ozomatli w/ Chali 2na- Super Bowl Sundae ( Cali music that mixes punk, hip hop, cumbia, salsa, more)

Cylob- Cut the Midrange (British electronica)

Ghostface Killah and Amy Winehouse- You Know I’m No Good Remix (Just Ghostface rapping over a remix of the original song

Bedouin Soundclash- Shelter (British fusion stuff)  EDIT:Oops, as Fathima points out, these guys are Canadian. Dur.

I’m tagging Nadia (who I’m sure will have a way cooler list than me), Suhana (ditto), Muse, Wizardsmoke (doesn’t seem like a meme type of guy and I have no idea what he listens to), Willow Wilson (I think she should include notes on what she listens to while working, like Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan do), Yasmine, and Abdul-Halim.

“Mercy Me” is the only other Streelight Manifesto song i’ve heard and i loved it. kept meaning to check out more of these guys. that video was great.

another thing - dude, Bedouin Soundclash are Canadian, out and out Canadian. on a related note, though, have you listened to any Asian Dub Foundation? because BS strikes me as a more mainstream version of the ADF, who are British.

Somehow, I though Bedouin Soundclash were from London. Fixed. I have heard ADF, but never really associated the two beyond the obvious similarities. Thanks for the heads up!

LOVE Dengue Fever!!!! LOVE THEM!!! Excellent choice.

Amy Winehouse: she’s a HOT MESS, but has a great voice….so sad. (never knew about the Ghostface version)

The Ozmatali track is awesome. I think Charli 2na is possibly my favourite rapper, plus he once namechecked the Europa Hotel which is all kinds of cool.

Have you seen the video to Rewind by Cylob? You would absolutely love it:

Ghostface has probably done just as many drugs as Winehouse, just better at not letting it be a public issue ;-) I think he’s the only Muslim member of Wu Tang, incidentally, but there are a couple affiliates like Cilvaringz who are too. Everybody else is a 5%er as far as I know.

Thanks for the video, it’s awesome. I discovered Cylob not too long ago because a friend of mine who puts on electronica shows did one for him in Seattle. Also really like Chali 2na but don’t have any of his solo stuff, just stuff with Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, and a couple records where he has guest spots.

On a ska tip, you might like this video by The Beat:

It’s worth watching just for the introduction to the song.

Heh, heh, heh….

English Beat!!!

Where would ska be w/o them?! Love it!

Thanks for sharing.

Sweet. I’m on it.

I love the beat, saw them live about 5 years ago. Not sure how much was the original line up, but still a good show, and I love this song, which somehow I haven’t heard.
